Hispanic Heritage Month

We have been busy celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the library!  Many books were read, across all 6 grade levels, and we did some fun activities to go along with them.  Here are just a few of them!

In Kindergarten we read Round is a Tortilla:  A Book of Shapes by Roseanne Greenfield Thong.  We talked about the different shapes that we could see in the library.

After reading the book we built shapes using spaghetti and mini marshmallows.  I am happy to report that not a single marshmallow was consumed!

In second grade, we read Paletero Man by Lucky Diaz.  They enjoyed all of the colors in this book and loved dancing to Paletero Man by Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band!  I also found this super cute video of Lucky and his daughter Indy making paletas de sandia!

After reading the book, the students decorated their own paletas.  I hung them on a bulletin board along with a picture of the book and a QR code to direct them to the song!
